Filao trip

This sums up last weekends trip on Filao … (needs volume)

First sail of the year and first GP of the year.

Yes it’s March but this weekend was the first Dart GP at Rutland and as Jim and I live less than 15 minutes away we had no excuses but to go and represent Snet Beach. Robert and Ian made the wise decision not to sail on Saturday and watched the first race until they had counted more capsizes than competitors, and yes we were one of them. On the plus side we were leading at the time and were 4th after getting it up which we held for the last lap. Only 5 finished and racing was abandoned which I had to admit was the right decision despite wanting to continue. It was a good blast and I now know what maintenance should have been done over the winter.

Sunday was apparently the calm before the storm and saw 17 boats including Paul and Malcolm Whitmore going extremely well but not well enough to stop Stuart Snell and Simon Farthing from taking 3 firsts in the 4 races sailed. Overall winner was Stuart, Paul 2nd and we managed 5th but as always the most important result was the handicap. I managed to get Jim to stay for the prize giving, something to do with Guinness, and it was worth it as we received 1st handicap again. Made Jim’s day!

See you all down the beach soon. Col

Flood gets the All Clear - Reducing the risk at Rutland

Good to see the All Clear for Snet. So I guess Jim will be moving his boat this weekend and anyone else that escaped last nights surge.
I’m planning to get my boat to Rutland this weekend so was wondering who else is sailing Darts at Rutland this winter. I assume Robert but what about Mark, Jim (or are you swimming behind a Musto yet) and are there any Rutland Darts?
P.S. I’ve put a link to floodline on the weather page.

Weather

I’ve had a close watch on the weather this week (Cadet week!) and have now updated the Weather page with the most useful sites. I used to think wind was the only thing we needed to see but now have more interest in cloud, rain and temperature.

Take a look at the Weather page and scroll down to the ‘See also’ links under Windguru.

June 16th-17th: Sat 18:30 - Sun 7:45

I’m intending to sail both days but the forecast is looking grey. What’s the situation on houses, backs and “lets be having you” Delia this weekend?

Weather Station

I just found this Hunstanton weather station site and thought it could be useful for Guy when he’s sat at work, wondering what the wind conditions are down the beach. Well it’s close. I don’t know who runs the site but it’s interesting so I’ve added it to the links.

I guess there’s no sailing this weekend because it’s the Ent open. Robert is OOD and I’ll be around to help although there’s an urge to get on with the decorating (complete rebuild).

Can I just remind you that the club is looking at having an open day on Saturday 23rd June so if you can help click here and leave a reply. Thanks.

June 2nd-3rd: Sat 18:30 - Sun 7:30

Sailing? I intend to sail both.

SBSC Open day : Sat 23rd June

Tim Coleman is working on an idea for an open day at the beach on the 23rd June. It’s an ideal day with a tide in the midday area. The plan is to advertise locally and give us an opportunity to invite friends to come and try out sailing, have a day at the beach, enjoy the social scene, a BYOF BBQ and see what our club is all about.
Unfortunately I’m going to be away that weekend but would you be interested in taking part and giving up racing to give people a taster? The success of such an event will depend on the weather but it could be a good day and hopefully gain some new members and potential crews.
Please leave a reply if you wish to take part and give us your ideas on how to advertise and attract people that may come back and get into sailing.

Outdated?

You may have already seen this debate on the dart18 chat page but if not it’s worth a read.

See dart18 > Chat > Outdated?

I don’t think the changes would make much difference compared to some of the modern cats but what else could we sail at Snet for the price of a dart?

Do I really need a trampoline?

I’ve been told my new trampoline will arrive today but no sign of it yet. I guess this does effect sailing for us this weekend but there is also the Lionel Wilkinson open meeting so is anyone doing OOD etc or are you racing? (Did you see how I worked in the usual question, did you see it coming?)
I’m also not sure if I’ll do both days. The forecast is not great, Saturday looking less wet than Sunday so I may just do Saturday.

Decided not to sail as it’s too windy for single handed people. :(

News update - :) Go faster trampoline has arrived! did I order the right one?
